What time do the lessons start?
Kitesurf lessons usually start between 9:30 AM and 6:00 PM. The exact time of your lesson generally depends on the weather conditions. It’s important to arrive at least 15 minutes early so we can start on time! The indicated start time is when your lesson begins — not when you start getting changed (some people take 10 minutes, others half an hour).
Will I be able to kitesurf after 5 lessons?
On average, it takes about 5 lessons before you can ride back and forth downwind. After these lessons, you’ll be independent and able to practice on your own, as long as you have someone there to assist you. It’s ideal to start with a friend so you can continue practicing together after your lessons.
What do I need to bring for my lesson?
We provide all the kitesurfing equipment. All you need to bring is swimwear, a towel, sunglasses and sunscreen.
When is the lesson cancelled?
If the wind is too light (less than 11 knots) or too strong (over 25 knots), kitesurf lessons will be cancelled. It’s also possible that lessons are called off if the wind direction isn’t suitable.
Is kitesurfing difficult?
Is it possible to teach myself how to kitesurf?
Kitesurfing isn’t something you learn by simply trying it on your own — it’s something you master through proper lessons. Taking kitesurf lessons is a valuable, and truly essential, investment. It ensures you’ll have maximum fun and confidence later on when you hit the water with your own gear.
How much wind do you need to kitesurf?
The ideal wind for a beginner is between 11 and 23 knots (force 4 – 6), not too strong and not too light.
So, what exactly is kitesurfing?
Kitesurfing is a water sport where the kitesurfer stands on a specially designed kiteboard and is pulled across the water by a kite made specifically for kitesurfing. “Kitesurfing” is the most common name for the sport. Someone who kitesurfs is also called a kiter or kiteboarder — these are the other popular terms for people who practice kitesurfing.
How many kites do you need — one or more?
We recommend starting with one good beginner kite! It makes perfect sense. As mentioned, the ideal wind range for learning and practicing kitesurfing is between 11 and 23 knots (force 4–5). That’s when the wind is usually the most stable and the water relatively calm. One kite combined with a twintip kiteboard is a great setup to begin with — and it also keeps costs down.
Does windsurfing, surfing or snowboarding make it easier?
If you already windsurf, snowboard or surf, you know how to balance on a board — but flying a kite is still something you’ll need to get used to.
Once you’ve learned how to “fly” the kite and completed your first lessons, you’ll progress quickly!
Do I need a lot of strength?
Most of the power generated by the kite is controlled through your harness, not your arms. Plus, the kite tends to lift you onto your board, so you don’t need to be extremely fit to practice. However, being in good overall health is essential.
From what age can I learn to kitesurf?
Age matters less when it comes to kitesurfing — it’s more about weight. We aim for a minimum of 30 kg and 8+ years old. Do you have a son or daughter eager to learn kitesurfing? Give us a call to get acquainted and perhaps schedule a first trial lesson.
Is kitesurfing dangerous?
Kitesurfing is only as dangerous as you make it. If you choose weather conditions and equipment that match your skill level, it’s not dangerous at all. Of course, we know that kitesurfing can also be a potentially extreme and risky sport. Riding in stronger winds and rougher seas can be incredibly thrilling, but the risks can also increase quickly.
What do you need to go kitesurfing?
To go kitesurfing, you need a kite, a kite bar (control bar with lines and safety system), a pump, a kiteboard, a harness, a neoprene wetsuit and optionally neoprene boots.
